POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, provide superb customer relations and progress the brand identity of Marion Technical College (the "College") by formulating creative concepts and executing effective visual designs for College marketing campaigns, enabling the department to achieve its goals and advance of the mission of the College.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain a strong knowledge base of essential graphic design and multimedia production concepts including desktop publishing; printing and pre-press file management; digital illustration; branding; logo development; video production; web-based display signage; social media creative; web design principles; and photography, including photographic lighting, composition, and retouching.
  • Lead the design and production of all creative and promotional publications internally and externally by utilizing industry standard software applications, including print, digital, and multimedia deliverables. Make significant contributions in defining and advancing the visual representation of the College brand for all internal and external advertisements and communications.
  • Maintain current knowledge and competent level of skill using professional desktop publishing software; fundamental layout and design of different types of documents; and typography and general printing practices.
  • Manage the inter-College digital display systems; produce and schedule creative content.
  • Photograph, edit, and manage College photos and photo assignments, including media events, College visit programs, advertisement photography, and staff recognition photos, etc.
  • Assist in the coordination of procurement of College-branded promotional items and merchandise for the College. Review and make recommendations on all digital and physical proofs of branded merchandise and printed materials. Serve as a liaison between the department Director and other College administrative staff in the approval process of branded items.
  • Assist in the coordination and preparation of special projects (e.g., anniversary celebrations and staff event), including setting up and tearing down displays, equipment, sets, etc.
  • Establish and maintain community relations and contacts that develop a positive image and exposure for the College, including traveling to local and regional locations, graduation ceremonies, and other College functions, as assigned.
  • Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and the College. Assist in achieving department goals.
  • Serve as a liaison between the department Director, faculty, students, and other College administrative staff. Serve as department lead in visual brand integrity.
  • Maintain user proficiency for software programs, systems, and databases used by the College.
  • Develop professional opportunities within the scope of work responsibilities, department, and College objectives. Demonstrate self-motivation and willing to research and continually update knowledge and skills, as well as provide input and accept additional and changing work responsibilities.
  • Respond to inquiries from students, College employees and customers regarding policies and procedures, while maintaining standards of confidentiality and privacy, in a timely manner; Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, the College, student records, federal, state, and local regulations, and any other protected documentation.
  • Attend on- or off-campus College meetings and serve on departmental and College committees as required or assigned by the Director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Visual Communications, Interactive Media, or related field required. Minimum two years of experience with graphic design, photography, media production, and/or printing/publication process required. Proficiency in Microsoft® Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), Adobe Creative Cloud programs (specifically InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) with strong computer and related technology skills required. Must have demonstrated creative talents, a strong design sense, attention to detail, proofing skills, and the ability to identify and creatively capture unique photographic settings. Exhibit excellent English, communication, and writing skills. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and complete projects on time, with minimal direction and oversight. Previous experience in higher education desired. Willingness to work an irregular schedule as assigned. Successfully pass a background check prior to and maintain throughout employment. Valid driver’s license or dependable transportation required.

 

ADA SPECIFICATIONS

This position is classified, as Staff will perform a wide range of administrative functions for the College, primarily in an office setting. Further information may be obtained from the Office of Human Resources.
