Full Job Description

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of Financial Aid, the Loan Specialist assists parents and students through the financial aid process and provides excellent service to all Financial Aid Office customers.

Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Is responsible for undergraduate, graduate, parent loan processing and corrections. Includes imports and exports of federal loans from Colleague to COD on a daily basis.
  • Enters parent information and monitors credit decisions for Parent Loans. Enters amounts requested on AIDE and adjust work study if needed. Notifies parent of additional processes needed when Parent Loans are denied.
  • Actualizes alternative loans as needed by list provided by Student Accounts. Notifies counselor of any discrepancies.
  • Monitors loan variance report to ensure accuracy of loan processing; adjusts and cancels loans as required due to change in student status. Notifies counselor of students that drop below half time.
  • Reviews graduate financial aid packaging from counselors to ensure accuracy. Is mindful of over awards and grade levels.
  • Is initial phone and email contact for graduate students. Explains steps and paperwork required for loan processing.
  • Edits and verifies financial aid paperwork for graduate students; edits financial aid paperwork for undergraduate students.
  • Monitors graduate email inbox. Prints applications as needed.
  • Provides back-up assistance for administrative assistant as required.
  • Duties as assigned by Director or the Executive Director.

Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma is required. Associates Degree from an accredited college, technical school, or university preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working in an office environment or clerical position.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Work independently with a clear understanding of priorities, deadlines and overall goals of the office.
  • Able to think analytically and solve problems; must be detail-oriented and accurate in work.
  • High character/integrity traits with the ability to keep appropriate material confidential.
  • Able to help administer programs, work well in a sometimes stressful environment and in general be a loyal team player within the framework of the Financial Aid Office at Ashland University.
